Montvale PTO Welcomes You.

Welcome to any new families this year, and welcome back and thank you to our returning PTO members for your continued support.

The Montvale PTO provides many social and educational school programs, services, and activities; and raises funds throughout the year to purchase school equipment and “wish list” items for both schools that directly benefit our children and that are not covered by the school budget. 

It takes many volunteers, an incredible staff, and a supportive community to make our schools great. Please get involved with the PTO and/or with the Montvale Educational Foundation this year...your involvement makes a difference!

No one can do everything, but everyone can do something!

The Valley Hospital Sports Institute will provide baseline concussion management testing for Fieldstone Middle School students (12 years of age or older) on Tuesday, May 22, 2012. 

• Testing will include neuro-cognitive and physical-balance measures. (These tests are non-invasive: They involve a computer-game like assessment and a physical balance assessment.)
• The test results will be stored on-line at ImPACT (accessible by Valley Hospital Sports Institute) and would then be available, in the event of a concussion, to serve as a baseline for comparison to post-concussion injury test results. 
• Any student/athlete participant that requests a post-injury test and comparison to baseline would be charged according to the Sports Institute fee schedule for the Concussion Management Program services in effect at that time. You may also request test results for comparison use by an alternative health care provider free of charge.

The testing will take place on May 22, 2012 at Fieldstone Middle School. There will be three sessions available at  4:30 PM, 6:00 PM, and 7:30 PM. A maximum of 25 students can be accommodated at each session (75 students for all three sessions). Testing will take approximately 20 minutes, although an hour is allotted for registration and set-up. The cost of the test is $25 per student.  

If you would like your child tested, FIRST purchase a time slot at montvalepto.com (under items for sale). Slots will be offered on a "first to purchase" basis. THEN complete the parental consent form/participant data form available under the More Info>Forms section of our website, and RETURN to school in an envelope labeled Montvale PTO and "concussion screening" by May 17. No testing will be performed until the parental consent form is signed. Therefore, if you drop your child off for testing, and have not completed the necessary consent forms, you will lose your slot and forfeit the testing fee.  

Memorial students take their "passports" to visit and learn about different countries throughout the day, and stop at the international food court to sample foods from all over the world. It's a wonderful day, and a great chance for parents to get involved. This year, our 8th grade students will serve as country presenters, allowing them to expand their knowledge while sharpening their presentation skills.

What do scientists do, and how do they think? Students will experience firsthand how scientists investigate our world. By exploring some commonly misunderstood phenomena students will uncover the relationships between experiments, hypotheses, observations and conclusions—and all become scientists.

This is presented to all Fieldstone Middle School Students.

This Franklin Institute Science will present an electricity program to our 3rd Graders.

Our Kindergarteners will get to meet and learn about various animal friends from Outrage-hiss Pets.

The PTO is accepting applications for the Suzanne Nemeroff Art Award. All 8th grade students are eligible to apply. The winner will receive a certificate and $500. All applications with essays and artwork must be submitted to Mrs. McCann in the artroom no later than 3pm June 8th. “Bantaba” is a Mandingo word that refers to “the center where all important events take place.” The troupe brings together traditional African and modern African-American dance while teaching about the respective cultures on opposite sides of the Atlantic. The students participate according to custom with call-and-response singing and movement.

This assembly is for 5th grade.

The New Jersey Energy Choice Program lets you choose a third-party energy supplier for cheaper electricity. Choose Viridian Energy: save $, use greener electricity, and the Montvale PTO will receive at least $2 every month for each customer that signs up through Montvale PTO. Where does the PTO spend its money? Through your volunteering and fundraising, in 2010-11, the PTO sponsored $25,000 worth of Curriculum Enhancement programs at MS & FMS, granted over $15,000 worth of "wish list" items to MS & FMS, and contributed $20,000 to fund wireless internet access, which--along with a similar donation from the MEF--allowed installation to occur at both schools over the summer in time for the 2011-12 school year! Our children benefit directly from your contributions to the PTO - thank you!!
